Big Stax 1100
Day 1a Completed
Day 1a has wrapped at Parx Big Stax 1100 in the Philadelphia area, and a very familiar name surged to the top of the counts to end the day.
It's Greg Fishberg in pole position after the first 15 levels of play of the Big Stax marquee event. He managed to bag a monstrous 719,000. That's good for a very wide lead as 31 of 140 entries made it through. He's the only player to even clear the 500,000 barrier.
That run came thanks to a furious finish, as Fishberg was sitting around 200,000 during the last couple of levels before he busted several players to close things out.
Few players have had more success than Fishberg over the years at Parx, as he ranks in the top three in both number of cashes and money won, according to the The Hendon Mob. With 16 final tables to his credit, he has nonetheless yet to claim a trophy in the $1,100 or $1,500 Main Events.
Other big stacks included long-time leader Robert Brobyn (482,000), Josias Santos (418,000) and Dan Daconti (412,500). Santos went from nearly out the door, needing three outs to avoid being down to a few big blinds, to bagging heaps when his ace-queen cracked kings.
Some of the others making it through included former champ Jimmy Poper, Victor Ramdin, and multiple WSOPC ring winner Peter Ippolito.
Players who fell short still have plenty of time to find a bag. There remains a long Day 1b ahead with more unlimited reentry, and late registration remains open until early in Day 2.
To find out whether anyone can match Fishberg's lofty heights, come back to PokerNews on Saturday to continue tracking the action.

An early player opened to 8,000, Robert Brobyn called, and Victor Ramdin made it 30,000 in the cutoff. Josias Santos jammed on the button for about 165,000 and the opener shoved as well for slightly less.
"I was just kidding," Brobyn declared as he mucked.
Ramdin needed longer but after a couple of minutes he gave it up as well. Santos turned over but saw he'd run into . No matter as rolled off the deck to give him aces up.

After an open to 10,000 from middle position, George Alberto made it 25,000 in the small blind. The opener called and flopped. Alberto put in 25,000 and quickly called when his opponent shoved for 35,500.
George Alberto:

The turn and river didn't bring enough improvement for Alberto's foe, and Alberto is back where he was a few hours ago north of 350,000.

After an under-the-gun limp, Dan Daconti made it 14,000 in middle position. A player on the button splashed in 45,000 and action folded back to Daconti. He moved all in after about 30 seconds and the player on the button quickly called, though he didn't look thrilled.
Dan Daconti:
Opponent:
The flop had Daconti sweating but the and were safe for him.
