Event #64: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em/Pot-Limit Omaha 8-Handed Mix

Day 2 Completed

Ryan Laplante Once Again Leads After Day 2

Just 16 remain after Day 2 of Event #64: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em/Pot-Limit Omaha 8-Handed Mix. Topping the counts after ten more levels of play was the start-of-day leader Ryan Laplante. Laplante bagged a healthy stack of 1,105,000.

Laplante entered play on Day 2 with the chip lead, just ahead of Chris Moorman. A fitting end to the day for Laplante was knocking Moorman out on the final hand of the night. Moorman moved all-in with pocket nines and Laplante put him at risk with pocket sixes. A six on the flop gave Laplante the lead and Moorman busted to bring on a final two-table redraw.

Joining Laplante at the head of the chip counts are Esther Taylor with 1,057,000, Khorchidian Nichan (895,000), Shannon Shorr (789,000) and Mark Radoja (710,000) rounding out the top five.

Other notables still in contention include Sebastian Langrock (404,000), Connor Drinan (392,000), Fernando Brito (287,000), and Bernardo Dias (226,000).

It is amazing that Shorr made it through the day, period. At one point before the dinner break, Shorr lost all of his stack except for just less than a big blind, which he was forced to pay the next hand. Less than 30 minutes later, Shorr had doubled, tripled, and quadrupled his stack back to more than average chips.

Another player making a bold move that maybe secured his seat on Day 3 was Drinan. Drinan folded queens face up after he four-bet in a three-way pot and got five-bet by Dias.

A total of 158 players started the day, all fresh in the money due to the bubble bursting at the end of Day 1. Familiar faces that are no longer in the running but departing with some consolation on Day 2 include Juha Helppi (28th - $6,718), Bryce Yockey (39th - $5,628), Matt Affleck (48th - $4,785), Jared Jaffee (63rd - $3,620), Jay Farber (65th - $3,222),Jeff Gross (72nd - $3,222), Tom Marchese (78th- $2,914), Naoya Kihara (120th - $2,374), and Carlos Mortensen (126th - $2,374).

The remaining players will return on Wednesday at 2 p.m. and play down until one of them gets to dawn a brand new, shiny gold WSOP bracelet and claim a top prize of $268,555.

Moorman: {9-}{9-}

No-Limit Hold'em

Shannon Shorr raised to 22,000 from the cutoff. Patrik Korsar three-bet shoved 304,000 from the big blind. Shorr gave it over a minute of thought, then flicked in a call.

Korsar: {2-Clubs}{2-Hearts}
Shorr: {A-Clubs}{J-Hearts}

The {6-Clubs}{8-Spades}{9-Spades} flop kept Korsar in front. The {J-Clubs} on the turn swung it to Shorr and left Korsar with just two outs. The {Q-Clubs} on the river sealed it, and Korsar was eliminated.

No-Limit Hold'em

Khorchidian Nichan raised from under the gun and Millard Hale defended his big blind. On the {Q-Spades}{10-Hearts}{4-Spades} flop, Hale check-raised all in and Nichan called.

Hale: {K-Spades}{9-Spades}
Nichan: {A-Spades}{A-Hearts}

Hale needed a spade or a jack to survive but bricked twice with the {8-Clubs} on the turn and {J-Hearts} on the river. Hale, who had topped the standings during the early stages of the day, saw his shot at WSOP glory come to an end in 22nd place.
