Day 1a of Event #5: $1,000 Mystery Millions has concluded here at the 2024 World Series of Poker at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas. The first of four scheduled flights drew in 2,246 entrants, who added $1,976,480 to the prize pool. Only 118 of those players progressed to Day 2, and nobody bagged up more chips than Pete Chen.

Chen finished Day 1a armed with 3,150,000 chips, almost one million more than Uri Reichenstein (2,225,000) in second place. Chen has two bracelets to his name, both won in the online streets. He's come agonizingly close to winning poker gold in Las Vegas, including a runner-up finish in a $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em event in 2017.
