Event #10: $5,000 Main Event Championship
Day 1b Completed
The second of four starting flights has concluded in the 2023 World Series of Poker Paradise $5,000 Main Event here at the Atlantis Resort & Casino. Day 1b attracted a total of 515 entrants which, along with the 883 entrants of the online flight on GGPoker and 657 entrants from Day 1a brings the total entrants so far for the Main Event to 2,055. That number brings the Main Event more than two-thirds of the way to surpassing the $15,000,000 guaranteed prize pool.
Jeffrey Trudeau bagged the chip lead out of 78 survivors from today’s Day 1b flight, finishing with 942,000 chips worth 94 big blinds by the end of the night. Trudeau has just over $3,000,000 in career tournament earnings to his name since 2006 with a career-best score of $352,200. Trudeau is most closely followed by Eyal Al Revah (889,000), Gary Thompson (840,000) and Mario Mosboeck (825,000). Austrian prodigy Mosboeck won a massive pot with pocket aces to burst the money bubble and surge up the chip counts in one of the final hands of the night.

Phil Hellmuth made a grand entrance midway through the day dressed as Poseidon, God of the sea. Hellmuth was flanked by an entourage of 17 mermaids – one for each of his WSOP gold bracelets. Hellmuth’s run today would come to an end in Level 13 after running into Ori Eshel’s pocket queens.
Some other notables who were not as fortunate to find a bag at the end of the night include Timothy Adams, Martin Kabrhel, Kevin Martin, Jonathan Little, Nikita Luther, Koray Aldemir, Shaun Deeb, Ryan Riess, Isaac Haxton, Kristen Foxen and Daniel Negreanu.
All players who have survived their respective starting flights can still play either of the remaining two starting flights to try and bag a bigger stack, but only the largest stack will be in play for Day 2. The last two starting flights are expected to bring in a diverse field of pros, recreationals and online qualifiers.
As always, stay tuned to PokerNews as we bring you all the action from this event until a winner is crowned on December 14.

The action has come to a close for Day 1b of the Main Event.
Stay tuned for a full recap of the day's action that will follow shortly.
There were three all in and calls across three separate tables.
First, Jose Zurita was all in against Wooram Cho who held the covering stack in a preflop confrontation.
Jose Zurita: Q♠Q♥
Wooram Cho: A♦2♦
Zurita's queens remained ahead on the 2♥J♦K♥8♦6♠ runout to score a full double up through Cho.
The second all-in unfolded in a battle of two medium stacks between Namhyung Kim and Mario Mosboeck. A substantial pot of more than 400,000 emerged to the J♠6♥5♥K♣ turn on which Kim was all-in for 171,000 and Mosboeck called.
Namhyung Kim: 8♦8♥
Mario Mosboeck: A♥A♦
The 7♥ river ensured at least one seat open and the Day 1b bubble had already burst.
Over on table 13, two players saw a board of A♠J♠5♥ with roughly 225,000 already in the middle and the scenario was almost identical. Benjamin Scrogins was all in for his last 30,000 against Rui Sousa who covered.
Benjamin Scrogins: 8♠8♦
Rui Sousa: 9♦9♣
Scrogins was in dire shape against the bigger pocket pair but the K♠ turn did give him a flush draw for some additional outs. The flush came through on the Q♠ river and he secured a full double up on the stone bubble.

Following an open raise over on table nine, Chanwoo Lee three-bet to 60,000 on the button. Vitor Dzivielevski then cold four-bet shoved out of the small blind and the initial raiser folded. Lee tanked for a short while and let go, too.

Rui Sousa had opened from early position only for Luuk Gieles to move all in for 61,000 from the small blind. Sousa made the call to put Gieles at risk.
Luuk Gieles: A♠A♣
Rui Sousa: J♥10♦
Gieles was in excellent shape to secure a double up and was very far ahead with an overpair on the 8♣6♦3♥ flop. The 10♠ turn gave Sousa some outs to crack the aces, one of which came through on the J♦ river. Sousa's two pair was good at showdown and Gieles was sent to the rail just two spots away from making the money.

In the second hand during hand-for-hand mode, Rui Sousa raised for Milos Petakovic and Tudor Bartha Lazar to call. They headed to the A♣K♥8♠ flop on which Sousa checked, Petakovic bet 25,000 and Bartha Lazar called before Sousa folded.
After the A♦ turn, Petakovic check-raised from 41,000 to 105,000 with 185,000 behind and Bartha Lazar called once more.
That brought them to the 6♣ river on which Petakovic bet 175,000, keeping one big blind behind. Bartha Lazar pondered about it for a few seconds and then moved all-in with the covering stack.
Petakovic smirked and shook the head while a small rail had already gathered around the table. He eventually called all-in and Bartha Lazar tabled the A♥J♥, after which a very relieved Petakovic flipped over A♠J♣ to chop it up. They bumped fists and the next hand kicked off.

Stephen Song raised to 30,000 on the button and Emilien Pitavy called out of the big blind, then nearly grabbed his cards to flip them over before he was warned by other players.
"Yeah don't do it ... actually never mind, just show them," Song joked. The A♥7♠6♣ flop came with a min-bet of Pitavy and Song called for the 3,000 he had kept behind.
Stephen Song: K♥Q♥
Emilien Pitavy: A♣9♦
The Q♦ turn gave Song some hope and he flicked his cards closer to the board. However, the J♣ river was a blank and Song bowed out just shy of the money.
Floor staff then told the dealers to stop after their current hand as they broke a table and verified the open seats. With now confirmed 80 players remaining and 78 set to advance, the tournament will continue in hand-for-hand mode.

In a battle of the blinds, the flop showed 7♠7♦5♥ and there were around 75,000 in the middle. Alexandra Botez bet 30,000 out of the small blind and Eyal Revah raised to 65,000. Without any hesitation, Botez moved all-in and Revah asked for a count.
The shove was for 176,000 and Revah talked it through for half a minute.
"My hand is okay ... this hand is better," Revah motioned and then placed his cards above the ones of Botez, sliding them to the dealer right away.
