Day 1a Concluded

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Cristian Dragomir
Cristian Dragomir

And after that final flurry of hands, the day has finished and with a late surge to the top of the leader board is Cristian Dragomir, who came 5th at Snowfest. The Romanian won some large pots from Benny Spindler knocking out the German in the last hand of the night and has finished the day with a huge 205,500 and looks to be the only player over the 200,000 mark.

Nigel Roca is not too far behind with 190,000, Vegard Vestvik has 178,100 while double EPT runner-up Martin Jacobson sits with 177,000 looking for yet another deep run.

Tomorrow, we're expecting a bigger field and a complete sellout as players such as Team PokerStars Pros Liv Boeree, Ruben Visser, Pieter de Korver will all be involved. Also playing are last year's winner Kevin MacPhee, EPT Prague winner Roberto Romanello and German Tennis Legend and Team PokerStars SportStar Boris Becker.

We'll be back here at 12pm local time for another full day of poker action!

To the Max

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

A last-minute surge for Max Heinzelmann as he bet 31,500 on the turn of a {10-Spades}{8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} board. His opponent Oleh Okhotskyi folded, and Heinzelmann showed him {q-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} for dramatic effect.

At 186,400 off the bag, Heinzelmann is among the bigger stacks as everybody heads for the bar.

Stani Finds an Unexpected House

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Kevin Stani
Kevin Stani

Jeff Sarwer had flat-called a raise in middle position with Kevin Stani also making the call in the big blind. It was checked to Sarwer on the {7-Clubs}{10-Spades}{8-Diamonds} flop and he bet 4,800 and EPT Tallinn winner (and Scandinavian Rookie of the Year) Stani was the only caller.

The {8-Clubs} turn saw a similar pattern of events with the Norwegian check-calling a bet of 8,500 to see a {10-Diamonds} river which both players checked. Sarwer turned over {j-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} for a flopped straight but Stani's {a-Hearts}{8-Hearts} had gone from nowhere to beat him.

Sarwer slumped back into his seat, the former chip leader has taken a couple hits late on today and might just be happy for the tournament to end for the night.

Becoming One With the Gorce

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Guillaume de la Gorce
Guillaume de la Gorce

Guillaume de la Gorce has been eliminated from the event, we missed the hand but the Frenchman had been grinding for most of the day without much success. With his exit, we've got about 171 (19 tables) remaining.

Ruslan Up Some Chips

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Dmitry Vitkind
Dmitry Vitkind

Ruslan Prydryk opened to 2,500 before Dmitry Vitkind made it 6,700 from the small blind and the Ukrainian made the call to see a {7-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{5-Clubs} flop. EPT Tallinn finalist Vitkind led out for 8,500 and Prydryk thought for several minutes before raising to 18,500.

Vitkind then moved all-in and Prydryk quickly called, it was as simple as that.

Vitkind: {9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}
Prydryk: {8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}

The turn {J-Diamonds} gave the Russian additional outs but the {2-Clubs} - the ultimate blank - meant that Prydryk was doubled up to around 75,000. Vitkind dropped to about 50,000.
